New South Australian gin helps save Southern White Rhinos

Gin lovers can savour their next tipple with pride knowing every sip is helping secure the future of the Southern White Rhino.

We are proud to have collaborated with Ambleside Distillers to bring a new and exciting spirit to life, Kifaru Gin.

Inspired by native botanicals from the Monarto region, this complex gin gets its gusto from the rich flavours of the Monarto Mintbush.

Delicately matched with deep notes of coffee, chocolate and hazelnut from roasted Wattleseed, this drink is the celebration of 15 finely balanced botanicals.

In partnership with The Australian Rhino Project, we are relocating a 30-strong crash of Southern White Rhinos to a brand new Rhino Quarantine and Management Centre at Monarto Zoo.

We are thrilled to announce proceeds from each bottle of Kifaru Gin sold will help bring these rhinos to South Australia where they will be safe from harm.

Zoos SA Chief Executive Elaine Bensted said Kifaru Gin would be as good for wildlife as it is for tastebuds.

“We are very excited to have the support of Ambleside Distillers as we work with The Australian Rhino Project and other partners on this critical task,” Ms Bensted said.

“This will hopefully see a large number of Southern White Rhinos relocated to Australia in the next few years.

“There are only 500 bottles of Kifaru Gin, so we would encourage everyone to get in quick and enjoy a product that is doing incredible work to save a species.”

Ambleside Distillers Director Trudy Dickson said the idea to collaborate was born after a visit to Monarto Zoo.

“After meeting the beautiful rhinos up close we were very keen to support Zoos SA’s conservation and education efforts,” Ms Dickson said.

“We quickly hatched a plan to create this limited edition gin that incorporates native botanicals from Monarto Zoo lands to help raise money and support the conservation efforts.

“Every drop of this gin has been crafted with a rhino-sized vision in mind and we are very proud of it.”
