Monarto Zoo wins People’s Choice Award

We’re roaring with excitement to let you know Monarto Zoo has been awarded the People’s Choice Award at the 2016 Brand South Australia Regional Awards.

The awards celebrate the achievements of those who have made significant contributions to regional South Australia and we are very proud to be a recipient.

As one of the world’s largest open range zoos, spanning more than 1500 hectares and home to more than 500 animals, Monarto Zoo is your very own slice of Africa, all within an hour’s drive of Adelaide.

The award confirms why we are already one of the largest tourist attractions in regional South Australia and shows the South Australian community is excited about our plans for the future.

Over the next four years, Monarto Zoo will become one of Australia’s first rhino sanctuaries, home to more than thirty endangered Southern White Rhinos as part of an ambitious plan to save this species from extinction.

To relocate the rhinos, considerable space is required to ensure they remain relatively ‘wild’. That’s where our exciting new plans to expand Monarto Zoo really come into their own. Our plans to develop a new Wild Africa precinct on the large allotment on the eastern boundary of Monarto Zoo will not only provide the ideal location to house our new rhino arrivals, the precinct will also replicate the closest experience to a safari outside of Africa.

In addition to the rhinos, the Wild Africa plains will be home to Giraffe, Cheetah, Eland, Oryx, Addax, Bongo, Nyala, Barbary Sheep, Zebra and Ostriches in abundance.

Several new animal experiences will be on offer, including safaris off the beaten track in open-sided safari vehicles and a new state-of-the-art Predator Experience will which allow visitors to safely walk right into the ‘lion’s den’.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us. As a conservation charity, we appreciate your support!

Make sure you visit Monarto Zoo soon to see why we are one of South Australia’s favourite attractions!
