Join us in celebrating the world’s tallest living animal, our ginormous giraffes!

World Giraffe Day is an exciting annual event initiated by our conservation partners, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day or night (depending on which hemisphere you live!) of the year – June 21.

Sadly, giraffe are facing trouble in the wild. Habitat loss, poaching and civil unrest have seen giraffe numbers in Africa plummet from around 155,000 in 1985 to about 70,000 today. This worldwide celebration helps promote awareness and support for these amazing animals in the wild.

As a conservation charity, we are committed to continuing our successful breeding program to ensure generations to come can enjoy the wonder of these tall, gentle creatures.

We’re also proud to partner with GCF to raise funds for Twiga Tracker, the largest giraffe GPS satellite tracking programme in Africa to learn more about giraffe’s spatial movements and habitat use in the wild. Find out more about Twiga here.

Come meet our giraffe keeper at 2.10pm for a great opportunity to see our animals enjoy a favourite treat or toy, view a feed or simply learn more about these amazing creatures from the people who care from them.

If you want to help us save these gentle giants, you can make a donation at the Giraffe Platform during our Giraffe Keeper presentation or online here. Or simply by adopting our giraffe online here.

So join us in celebrating World Giraffe Day Friday 21 June at Monarto Zoo and help us ensure these gorgeous animals stay a stride ahead of extinction!
