Baby boom for Monarto Zoo’s Eland

calf-born-in-november-2016

What could possibly be better than an adorable Eland calf? How about nine!

Monarto Zoo is celebrating the birth of nine of these amazing antelopes last month, with a few more expected to join our herd of 20 over the next few weeks.

Newborn Eland spend their first week of life hiding in grass or bushes with mum before joining the other calves in the herd in a ‘creche’, with young sticking close to the herd but spending their time together.

They don’t stay this little for long, so make sure you head down to Monarto Zoo soon to welcome them to our wild family!
