Monarto Safari Park

Monarto Safari Park is a non-government conservation charity, every visit, adoption, donation and ticket helps to save species from extinction.

Tassie Devil released into the wild

This week our Natives Keeping Team at Monarto Zoo was involved with a very special project.

Reuben, one of our male Tasmanian Devils, was chosen for wild-release in Tasmania as part of the Wild Devil Recovery Project.

Listed as endangered in the wild, Tasmanian Devil numbers are under threat from the aggressive Devil Facial Tumour Disease which has devastated wild populations.

Zoos SA is working with many partner organisations across Australasia in a large collaborative captive breeding and release program to safeguard this species from extinction. Good luck on your big adventure, Reuben!
